Ace Slim Biography

Ace Slim is the guitarist, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Trevor Turville.  The name derives from his grandfather’s nick name, “Ace” who was a pilot during WWII, and “Slim” from Memphis Slim, the legendary American blues pianist, singer, and composer.

Although mainly a guitarist, Turville also plays piano, organ, banjo, ukulele, bass, drums, and harmonica.  Primarily self-taught, he has years of experience playing Rock, Jazz, Blues, Country, and Bluegrass, and his musical style crosses several genres.

Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Turville grew up listening to Broadway musicals on family road trips, and started playing on a loaner guitar, from a friend of the family, in 1987.  A few years later he picked up the electric guitar, having been influenced by Rock n’ Roll greats like the Allman Brothers Band, Led Zeppelin, the Grateful Dead and Phish.

Other influences include Eric Clapton, Jelly Roll Morton, Lee Morgan, Ray Charles, Big Bill Broonzy, Bill Monroe, Doc Watson, Merle Haggard, Wayne Hancock, Rufus Wainwright, Tortoise, Modest Mouse, Frank Zappa, and Mr Bungle.

Turville currently lives in Flagstaff Arizona where he plays every other week at The Annex Bar and Grill.  He also performs once a month at Charlys Pub in the Weatherford Hotel with Rich Neville on Bass and Janet Daniel on drums.  Ace Slim was the winner of the Pickin’ in the Pines 2021 band contest with Roger Smith on Bass.

There are currently two albums available, the first self titled”Ace Slim” and the second, “The Mudshark Sessions”.
